《肉食即謀殺》是英國搖滾樂隊史密斯樂隊的第二張錄音室專輯，於1985年2月11日發行。它是樂隊唯一一張登上英國專輯排行榜榜首的錄音室專輯，並在榜單上停留了13周。這張專輯在國際上取得了成功，在歐洲百大專輯榜上停留了11周，[3] 最高排名第29位。[4] 在美國，這張專輯在Billboard 200排行榜上也達到了第110名。

繼1984年樂隊的首張錄音室專輯《史密斯（英語：The Smiths (album)）》後，主唱莫里西和吉他手約翰尼·馬爾又親自製作了這張專輯。專輯製作過程中，只有音頻工程師斯蒂芬·斯特里特（Stephen Street）提供了協助。他們在《Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now》的錄音工作中第一次見到斯蒂芬·斯特里特，並要了他的聯繫電話。[5] 不過，最終，這張專輯的製作人一欄只寫了「史密斯樂隊」。

莫里西向馬爾和斯特里特提供了他自己的BBC音效記錄副本，作為專輯採樣的來源。[6] 莫里西將在史密斯樂隊未來的創作中繼續這種做法。

《肉食即謀殺》比前作更具激進性和政治色彩，包括了主張素食主義的同名主打歌（莫里西禁止樂隊成員被拍到在吃肉），[7] 以及反對體罰的歌曲《The Headmaster Ritual》。在音樂上，樂隊展現了更多的冒險精神，馬爾和樂隊貝斯手安迪·魯爾克在《Rusholme Ruffians》和《Barbarism Begins at Home》中分別融入了鄉村搖滾樂和放克。值得注意的是，《Rusholme Ruffians》借鑑了維多利亞·伍德（英語：Victoria Wood）歌曲《Fourteen Again》的元素。作家約翰·金（英語：John King (author)）認為，這張專輯的同名主打歌可能受到了無政府朋克樂隊衝突（英語：Conflict (band)）1983年的歌曲《Meat Means Murder》的啟發，後者也探討了相同的主題，並以慢節奏開場。[8]

專輯的封面使用了一張美國海軍陸戰隊上士邁克爾·韋恩（Michael Wynn）1967年在越南拍攝的照片，並將他頭盔上的「Make War Not Love」字樣改為了「Meat Is Murder」。韋恩在2019年表示，他從未授權過樂隊使用這張照片作為封面，並且對頭盔上的字樣被改動「並不是很高興」。[11]
